Online shopping is now the safest and the most convenient way to shop, and it will not go away even after the COVID is over. Here is why:

  1. People LOVE conveniences and shopping from home saves time and hassle.
  2. It will take time for people to trust that it is safe to go out.
  3. The social distancing measures will remain in place for a long time, which means longer line-ups and more time spent doing essential grocery shopping.

Our recommendation for retailers: Get your online store up and running, fast. You won’t regret it. Why?

  1. It will help you survive the tough times.
  2. It will allow you to reach many more people that will ever set foot in your store.
  3. Your revenues will increase once the COVID restrictions are lifted. The online store will become another source of revenue, in addition to your brick-and-mortar store.
  4. Your brand exposure will increase as you will reach more people online.

In North America, the number of online sales for PRIMARILY store-based retailers increased by 43% between March 22 – April 4, 2020!! (Emarsys/Good Data Tracker) People have been shopping online for virtually anything: medical supplies and vitamins, baby products, cleaning supplies, groceries, small appliances and bread machines, fitness equipment, even sex toys (go figure!). Last week, Wallmart CEO said we are now in the hair color phase. With the warmer weather coming (and the popularity of home-baking :-)), the next stage, in my opinion, is apparel. People simply want to feel better and get a sense of normalcy.

  2. How to set up taxes, shipping methods and shipping costs
  3. How to increase sales by offering discounts, up-selling and cross-selling
  4. How to add a mobile app that will be available for download from Google and Apple Store without spending a ton of money (Yes, it is possible!)
  5. How to engage customers through email marketing and push notifications (using the app)
